Projects on Mid-Vancouver Island

December 2017 marked the completion of Habitat for Humanity Mid-Vancouver Island’s Meadow Hill development and our 19th and 20th house.

Traditionally, we have built two and three bedroom houses, in many instances as duplexes. However, our most recent development includes 3 – four bedroom houses, 2 – three bedroom houses and a two bedroom disability-accessible house.

We build houses to a green standard wherever practical and affordable. Thanks to the valuable efforts of our growing build site volunteer base, our homes are extremely airtight – which reduces wasted energy by limiting outside air infiltration. The ventilation in our homes is provided by a Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV) which not only provides clean, filtered air, but also reduces energy consumption by exchanging heat from outgoing to incoming air. With the support of national donors, we have been able to build more efficient homes by upgrading the insulation, and equipping the homes with LED light fixtures. We are constantly searching for ways to improve the energy efficiency of our builds, with the objective of reducing our homes’ ecological footprints and increasing affordability for our homeowners.

Thank you for making this world a better place, one home at a time. - Judith Schweers, Build Volunteer
