HFHMVI is launching its first annual giving campaign in recognition of 25 years helping local families into affordable homeownership.

The giving campaign will run from November 1 – December 31, 2019. Local people and businesses are asked to consider making a donation of $25 or more to help build homes for deserving families.

Marcel Aubin, Executive Director said: “We’re launching this campaign as the number 25 is proving to be significant to us this year. Not only is it our 25th anniversary of working as a Habitat Affiliate in the Mid-Vancouver Island region, but we will be choosing our 25th family this year and building our 25th home in 2020. We’re asking our local community to support us during our campaign if they can with a donation of $25 or whatever they can afford”.

HFHMVI is currently shortlisting for its 25th family who will become owners of the 4-bed duplex currently under construction on Glenn Fields Road in the Cowichan Valley. The successful applicant will contribute 500 community volunteer hours before becoming a homeowner with a no down payment, no interest mortgage. Mortgage payments are assessed annually to ensure the payments remain at an affordable 25% of household income.

Spring 2020 will see construction start on HFHMVI’s largest single development to date, our 6-plex on Jubilee Street, Duncan. This development will include the 25th home built by HFHMVI and will take the total number of homes built by HFHMVI in the region to 28.

Marcel Aubin added: “As a non-profit organisation, we must raise every dollar we need to build these homes, so every donation of cash, goods to be sold in our ReStores or contributions to our builds are extremely valuable to us”.
