The goal of Habitat for Humanity Mid-Vancouver Island is to provide families with a home in which they can feel safe, secure and independent, and able to live a happy and fulfilling lifestyle.

As part of our family celebration month during February, we asked some of our Habitat homeowners to tell us how being a Habitat family has impacted them.

Tara Maguire and her sons Kyler and Jackson, moved into their new Habitat home on Prideaux Street, Nanaimo in 2014.

Tara explained how being a homeowner through Habitat for Humanity has given the whole family a chance to achieve their goals.

“Where do I start? Since we moved in I have had the opportunity to go back to school and get a community support worker degree, decide I love school and want an advanced education, start a bachelor of arts in psychology, and now I am in my third year with my end goal to get a doctorate. This never would have been possible without HFH! “

“The volunteering I did with HFH and continued to do after has given me an amazing CV which will help me get accepted to grad school. My children are happy, and healthy, and thriving, and because my mortgage payment is controlled, I can afford to send my youngest to the best school/therapeutic centre for autism on the Island!”
