Meet our Newest Habitat Family!

Pamela Mitchell and her three sons, Kolby, Levi and Oakley were recently chosen to be our next habitat family, and have the opportunity7 of homeownership in our 4-bedroom duplex home on Glenn Fields Road in the Cowichan Valley.

When Pamela found out her family had been selected by our independent Family Selection Committee she was ‘ecstatic’ and ‘extremely grateful’ for the opportunity.

For Pamela’s family, the opportunity to experience the stability of home-ownership is particularly important. 2019 was a very difficult year for the family as they tragically lost Pamela’s youngest son Wilder.

Coping with that loss has been hard on them all and that coupled with an unstable rental situation prompted Pamela to apply to habitat. She said: “I applied for the Habitat home because I hoped it would provide stability for my family.

“The home will give us a safe and secure place to live while we process the trauma we have faced over the past few years and learn to thrive again.’

Pamela is currently working towards her 500 volunteer hours, required of all Habitat families before she receives a down-payment free, interest-free mortgage with Habitat.

Pamela said: “I am grateful for the opportunity to become a homeowner through Habitat, not only for the stability and security that has been provided for my children and I, but for the convenience of being closer to resources and amenities, and the ability to be part of the Habitat family.”
