I'l pass today...We raise funds, mobilize volunteers, and build safe, quality homes that are sold to families in need through no-profit mortgages with manageable monthly payments. By working together, we give local families a hand up—not a handout—toward long-term stability and independence.
At Habitat for Humanity Mid-Vancouver Island, we focus on creating a clear pathway to affordable homeownership for local families who are ready to build a better future—but who don’t qualify for traditional mortgages. Our affordable homeownership program bridges the gap between social housing, rental housing, and the open market by offering families the chance to purchase a home at fair market value, with no down payment and a no-interest mortgage.

In September 2000, a Groundbreaking ceremony was held for the next project, a single-detached house on Lambert Avenue in Nanaimo. This project involved many volunteers dismantling an older fire-damaged two-bedroom house. Some of the material was reused and a new three-bedroom house would be built.

Learn MoreThe next house built was on a property on Wakesiah Avenue which was donated by its former owner, Ann Scott. An excavator and demolition crew tore down the condemned house to make room for the new single-detached three-bedroom home.

When you shop or donate furniture, appliances, or building materials to our ReStores, you're supporting Habitat’s mission to build affordable housing for families across Mid-Vancouver Island. Every item sold helps fund our local homebuilding projects—and keeps usable materials out of the landfill. It’s a smart choice for your home, your community, and the environment.
