At Habitat for Humanity Mid-Vancouver Island, we focus on creating a clear pathway to affordable homeownership for local families who are ready to build a better future—but who don’t qualify for traditional mortgages. Our affordable homeownership program bridges the gap between social housing, rental housing, and the open market by offering families the chance to purchase a home at fair market value, with no down payment and a no-interest mortgage.

This home was originally built by Habitat for Humanity Mid-Vancouver Island in 2009. In 2012, the homeowner got married and decided to ‘pay it forward’ by returning her home to Habitat Mid-Vancouver Island, so that another family could benefit from the Habitat homeownership program. Meagan, a single mother and her two children, were chosen as the future homeowners.

In building the duplex, energy efficient framing methods and environmentally friendly building products would be used. Ground was broken in April 2013 with the help of VIU heavy equipment operator students.
